Department of Product & Systems Design Engineering

Design Matters !

Design Matters !

The brochure entitled "Design Matters!" is the result of a creative effort for the promotion of the Department of Product and Systems Design Engineering, Polytechnic School, University of the Aegean.

The booklet captures the historical development of the Department, presents the structure and organization of the study program, the fields of activity of its research laboratories, as well as information about the career and distinctions received by its graduates. It is currently available only in Greek.

Getting acquainted with the department

Getting acquainted with the department

The focus of our Department is the integrated design of modern and emerging products, systems and services.

Its educational operation began in the year 2000 and is aligned to the most modern practices and programs of study offered by international accredited institutions in the field of design of products and systems.

What does a Design Engineer do?

What does a Design Engineer do?

The spread of the information society, globalisation and the new needs and requirements that emerge from them, create new industries and services resulting in the birth of new forms of systems, products and services. The Design Engineer is able to contribute to the identification, conception, and creation of products, systems and services that are appropriate in terms of form, content, function, and value for human action.

Study Streams

Interactive Systems Design
(Stream 1)

Interactive Systems Design

Products or services will soon not be perceived inseparable from computers in their structure. Interactive TVs, networked intelligent home appliances, smart packaging (esp. of consumer products) do not comprise extreme examples, but a reality.

Computer Aided Design (CAD)
(Stream 2)

Computer Aided Design (CAD)

The prospect of computer-aided design (CAD) was skyrocketed once it was feasible to create a product with the aid of a computer by simulating a large part of its lifecycle, in particular this part that falls within the traditional engineering process.

Service Design
Stream 3

Service Design

The increasing complexity of identifying needs and creating new products and systems requires a horizontal cognitive background that will allow for a comprehensive view of the “product” life cycle. The 3rd stream of study addresses this aspect of design and builds up to the knowledge homogeneity required for handling the design life-cycle
