Panayiotis Koutsabasis holds a B.A. in Informatics (1995) and M.A. in Information Systems (1997) from the Athens University of Economics and Business, and a Ph.D. from the Department of Information and Communication Systems Engineering, University of the Aegean (2002).

He has been a member of the University of the Aegean since 1996 as an external associate and researcher. He serves in the Department of Product and Systems Design Engineering, University of the Aegean, as an adjunct lecturer (2000 - 2010), lecturer (2010-2014), assistant professor (2014-2019), associate professor (2019-2024), and professor (2024 - present). He has contributed to the formation of the department's curriculum and the direction and reserch lab of Interactive Systems Design (previous name: Human-Computer Communication). He has served as the president of the department (2022 – 2025).

He has been teaching for over 20 years at undergraduate and postgraduate level courses in the subjects of Human-Computer Interaction and Informatics, such as: human-computer interaction, interactive systems design (studio), advanced interaction technologies and their applications, programming technologies and methodologies, design for all, technological support for collaborative work, decision support systems, design theory and methodology, cognitive science, e-business design, project management and administration, software technology, etc. He has supervised 2 PhD theses, and > 100 M.A. and M.A. theses in the above subjects. He is the author of two books (in Greek) on the subject of human-computer communication.

He has published more than 100 papers in international scientific journals, conferences and book chapters, including Int. J. of Human-Computer Studies, Int. J. of Human-Computer Interaction, Behaviour and Information Technology, Virtual Reality, Presence, Design Studies, CoDesign, BJET, ACM Computing in Cultural Heritage, J. of Usability Studies, Mobile HCI, etc. His published work has an h-index: 20 according to Scopus (> 1000 citations) and h-index: 27 according to Google Scholar (~ 2000 citations). He is a regular reviewer of papers in approximately 40 international conferences and 30 journals. He participates or has participated in the scientific committees of 3 scientific journals and approximately 20 conferences. He is a regular member of the organizing committee of the ACM CHIGreece conference, which has as its main purpose the interaction and dissemination of results of the Greek community of scientists in the field of Human-Computer Interaction. He is a member of ACM, ACM SIGCHI, ACM SIGCHI Greek chapter, and EUSET.
