Course Description:
Interaction Design concerns itself with analysing and modelling the structure of the composite dialogue that develops between people on the one hand and products & systems on the other, as well as the interactions between people that are mediated by some product or system, for instance communication products like telephones and telecommunications systems. The aim of this course is the study of these interactions to design and development of systems that will meet whatever needs and desires of the user arise, according to the particular context and developing framework of interaction. The theoretical background and design methods are based on the principles of human centred-design applied to Human-Computer Interaction. However, the types of interaction, as well as the type of Interactive Products & Systems being studied, are not restricted to computer based examples. This is because the objective in the design of interactive products & systems is not only to optimize the technological system to be more flexible or usable, but rather an effort to add value to human activity-making in more meaningful ways.
Learning outcomes:
By the end of this course, students will be: able to express the basic concepts and processes related to designing interactions, able to create interactions using various methods and techniques, and able to conduct evaluations of interactions.
Examination:
Students are assessed by written exams and project work. The final mark is made up from the grades from project work (60%) and written exams (40%).
